once again i have searched through all the posts...and somethings make sense others really don't. Basically i am a young uni student in the uk who wants to start making some lo-fi ambient acoustic type stuff(i even sound like a student!!)

What do i have?
packard bell i-media
(256RAM, 80gb hard drive, standard sound card, intel pentium4)
cubase

now i need some advice, i know i will need to upgrade my sound card but to what??remember i am a student!!

i want to record guitar, acoustically i figure i will need an condenser mic(which ill hopefully ebay) could this be used to mic guitar cabs and also vocals...therfore one mic that could do all of these would be awesome, is it possible?

from the mic...to where...pre amp(what one??)? or straight to mixer(probably a cheap behringer 802 ort something) then into the computer?

and i assume thats the bare bones

after this is sorted program related question will rain down!

thank you so much for your time

Welcome to the forum! I'm not trying to sound rude here, but really, this topic has been covered over and over and over again. There are a number of good threads active right now about what computer specs are good, what soundcards are good, what mics are good and what they can be used for, and how to hook up the mics to your computer input.
