At the risk of being repititous, this song was great.
Go get signed already, will ya?

I hear the ELO more than The Beatles, and your voice was perfect.

So knock it off...I'm getting really jealous here.

Fantastic!!

Holy shit that's good!!

I have an engineer friend here in Cincy who knows Rick Wake and frequently runs good stuff by him...

If you send me a CD copy of the tune I'll get it to him...

...one never knows...

Hell - I'll even buy the song!

Well... I actually read this thread, and haven't heard the song yet. And now I am scared, because I don't know if God himself could write a song that lives up to the expectations I have at this point! =) (I wish I knew how to put those cool smileys on here...)
I guess I'll listen, and if it meets the expectations I will let you know.

Lyrics

I would say your weakest point here is your lyrics, But this is totally my opinion and is coming from where I am in life, which is probably totally irrelevent to you.

First off I could take the song 2 ways. You could be talking about a girl (hopefully not your girlfriend...=) or you could be talking about drugs (funny how those two feelings go hand in hand huh?)

If your talking about drugs, I feel that the "never thought that I could feel so high" line is.....I don't know, It seems I here that in every other mainstream radio song these days. The word "high" in alternative music seems to be the equivilent of "baby" in blues.
I guess I just fel that your potential would be greatly increased by a more original topic....Maybe I am just bitter because I lost 3 years of my life to drugs and it isn't something I enjoy listening about, or feel it is worth listening about. I do sense some conflict in the song though about not wanting your mind to be clouded and such, so that is good. Take it from myself as well as Stevie Ray Vaughn (had to add some clout, since no one knows who the heck I am) , your a better musician once your sober. I realize that most of us write about where we are in life as well as past experiences and that is totaly cool, I wouldn't want it any other way, because when we write from our hearts it is the most powerful music in the world, But I still feel there is a shallow aspect to this song, perhaps it is because I have lived within the context of this song, and it is a very shallow life....I don't know it just seems like it is missing somehting lyrically. Anyway, I am totally rambleing and getting a little off the topic here so I will shut up.

great production by the way, and nice harmonies and everything.
Hope you are very successful!

Hi Kelly, no problem about the girlfriend comment, would be worse if you said, "hey your girlfriend is ugly"!! I think on this song, the vocal may have been an AKG Solidtube thru an HHB compressor (I don't have either one anymore, maybe I should have kept them), than I use the Ren Comp during mixing, and a little Paris EQ and reverb and delay. I think Paris was a pretty good choice (I was gonna get a Roland VS thing, and Paris was about the same price.) If it weren't for credit, I'd have no studio at all.:D I think your right about the string-kill thing needing more room. And, er uh, that's Mr. Shithead. :p :( I like your idea about distribution, that could be very cool. Thanks for digging that java script thing, I thought that was pretty darn groovy! Thanks a lot, Kelly, I do appreciate it!!

Hey Village Idiot, thanks. In this case, repetition is a good thing!! I'm really blown away by the response!

Zip, thanks very much! As soon as we get all the tunes finished (will be awhile), then I'd love to send you one (I'm not familiar with Rick Wake, though.) Thanks again, greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Macle

Hey Matt, your the first one to mention the lyrics at all!! So actually that's pretty cool. I agree that a lot of the lyrics are not exactly ground breaking (or maybe all of them), but..., you know, sometimes, I think, certain words seem to work well in yer basic song.

Your right, the idea was for the meaning to work in more than one way. Could be drugs, or a girlfriend, but the original thought was music!! Or other pop culture things (maybe this song :) ) that have this buzz or hype going, and then it sort of fades away. So really, it's about anything that gives you a great high at first, but then it passes, and you end up feeling kinda empty, just like the way it is with drugs.

So in a way, it's really an anti drug song. But I can understand that with your experience, it might be annoying to hear those kinds of references.

Thanks a lot for checking out the tune, and the thumb's up on the production and harmonies, and your taking the time to think about the lyrics. I really appreciate it.

Macle...

Rick Wake is a big time producer in L.A. Can't remember which label however...maybe Capital??

He's produced some big time names... Christine Agulara etc...

Funny thing is I used to party with this guy in the early 80's...the d00d can play a guitar as well as Steve Howe. He is amazing. Not sure how he got in production but I know my buddy Jeff is always forwarding stuff he likes and thinks may have potential.

Worth a shot anyway...

Send me an email at zipdt777@hotmail.com and I'll shoot ya my addy.

No promises but at worst it will cost you a buck for a CDR and a few more to send it to me.

lata and keep on jammin...

Those are some good songs.
I really like All About You, and the Buzz Is Over.
Well done.

Oh the lyrics. Now I don't want to start a lyric thing here, there's a songwriting forum for it anyhoo.

But as John Lenon once said to a reporter who was beefing him about some twisted illusion to them, he said:

"Its just a song"

And you can take it any way you want. Matt, when you were wondering which way the lyrics could be taken, thats perfect man. Your spot on. In songwriting terms.....mission accomplished. My drummer/vocalist writes lyrics that just "illude to" or "suggest" as well. On purpose. Then you can take them anyway you want to. And more importantly (this is music) that sound good sung. His voice gets that cool edgy sound in the right parts or in the nice parts of the chorus. That can only be done with certain words.
Also he's put in a lot of time, vibe, effort, and thought into this production. As most of us are also our own producers, its all to easy to say, aaah i'm tired that'll do just mix that down. Ok sometimes that does work, but if your onto something, a good song idea, then live it breath it fart it work it into somethink that at the end of it you can trully say, well iv'e done my absolute best and im really proud of it.

Macle,

I first off wanted to say that your humble attitude is just amazing! And how you respond to each reply is really admirable!

I'm glad you explained the lyrics a little more depth, It makes a lot more sense to me, and I am actually a little dissapointed in myself that I took them so one sided (i usually have a little better imagination than that).

If you keep pressing on with the mindset you have now, I don't see anything stopping you from going all the way....Hopefully this Buzz won't ever be over =) (that was way cheesy...sorry)

Matt

Zip-Thanks, that could be very cool (though I'm not sure if someone who does Christina Aguilara would be into what we're doing). Don't know if you saw my reply to tubedude, but right now, we're just concentrating on the music, and as soon as we're done with all that, we're gonna start thinking about dealing with the "business". Thanks very much, that's really great!

badgas-Thanks a lot!! Glad you checked out some of the other ones, it's always interesting to hear which ones people prefer.

Scott- As Lennon might say, "write on, brother!"

Matt-The pleasure is all mine! (Who doesn't want to talk about their own songs!?! :) ) It's great to get feedback, good and bad. Thanks again, Matt!!

Awesome stuff and I'm not just being polite. Now we know what Jeff Lynne producing Suzanne Vega sounds like :p

Great arrangements and sound quality. Cool songs and performance.

Macle...

He just looks for catchy tunes the public will dig...

He may say..."if it were only FIVE years ago..." or...

..."can you quickly write three more just like it?"

hard to say but worth a shot!

"The Buzz is Ova"

very Oasis...i was feeling it the whole time..listened to it again and was still pleased..it isn't breaking any new ground in my ears, but your skills are admirable...if i had an indie label..i'd put you there. just keep doing what you're doing..maybe get yourself a manager...someone you can trust that'll spend a lot of time doing leg work for your projects..that is how i sell my stuff. i sold a 4 song loops demo cd to a graphic design department of an architectural firm...i would have never found them, but someone else that spends all day lookign while you continue writing can. food for thought..take care..

TexRoadkill- Thanks! Jeff Lynne producing Suzanne Vega!? Interesting. I hope you're just referring to the ones my girlfriend sings lead on. :) Thanks very much for the kind words!

zip- Sounds cool. I've got you're email, so when we get to that stage, I'll contact you. Thanks very much for that.

samich17- Thanks! Really appreciate it. A couple of people have said that about not breaking new ground, which doesn't really bother me, but I'm curious as to what is. I always sort of feel that most everything sounds like something, so I'm just kinda curious about that. Anyway, I really think you're idea about getting a manager is a good one. I've been thinking that myself, especially since I'm so NOT into business type stuff. :) Thanks again!!

Hee hee hee!

I must admit that I haven't been following this thread for a while now, but the buzz is definately not over. ;)

And Macle, thanks for getting the mp3's for your other songs up on your website. I had been itching to hear "Joke" again.

Take care,
Chris

no problem...i like experiencing as much music as possible...i agree that most music sounds like something else as well, but there are some bands....Sigur Ros for example that has just blown me away with their new approaches...they might not be all that new, but they certainly aren't repeating the same old format that has worked before....your music is completely original, which i admire...i just hunger for something that daringly pushes the sides of the box a little further outward...if that makes any sense...

please come check out my music at

Hey Chris, thanks for rechecking out Joke, no problem about the mp3s. I think the buzz, now, is pretty much over! :)

samich17-I get what you're saying about pushing the boundaries. For me, I guess I'm not really aiming for that, I really like the traditional type format, and just want to do something within that that seems alright. But I may eventually try and push some boundaries. Anyway, thanks again.
