The best mix/master. hdphones

There are so many brands and stuff that one could go nuts obout it...

So I decided to ask the geeks...and the people who knows...

Which headphones should I get to mix, and master as well for under 100 $??. I decided to buy them first and then get a pair of monitors...

For one....you dont mix with headphones....thats a no-no.

But to have a good pair.. I recommend Sony full padded over the ear. Look to spend right at $100 for a descent pair.

yeah, any monitor or speaker etc.


Headphones will throw you off when mixing. I rather mix on computer speakers before using headphones. But, some people actually use headphones. I guess to each his own.

you can mix and master with headphones, I do.

you will just need to get alot of blank Cds because you will
have to adjust your mix 20 more times than normal. Trial and error.

At that point you will not feel your beats anymore, like when they were fresh.
Then you start to adjust, and fix whats not broken, then you have 10 remixes of your beat. Now you have to master all of them. 20 times. Then you play it on speakers, and you decide that the 1st mix was the best. Especially on that cool iPod.

Then you consider monitors.

The fact is that...when you have a tight budget you consider headphones until you can get monitors...also they can be used to set levels not only in studio but live.

I'm about to spend my big threasure in an interface and I just got 100 $ more for either monitors or headphones...(I dont have anything else to mix with)...so I'm considering a good headphone and when I get the money I'll buy a pair of good monitors...for now...just the good headphones...and lots of CDs of course....jejeje

I'm sure you must have speakers? So, at least they will do until you can get monitors.

So, consider the Beyer 250 cans. Very comfortable and clear.

They cost a few pesos more than 100; but, maybe you can snag a pair on the net.

The "hearing" environment in cans almost always sounds great, unless you're using two tin cans and a piece of lanyard between them.

We all have had the experience of mixing something via cans and then discovering that what we heard is not what we got. Hence, the monitors.

But, if you're recording, you will make do and can do and try to avoid doo doo.

I have to agree.

I would have to agree that headphones are a no no but like malcolm said "to each his own".

Personally I can't stand listening to music with headphones let alone mixing.....and mastering??:eek:....wow I wouldn't even go there.

yes, you CAN mix with headphones.......





.......but you can't do it well. so when your mixes suck and sound like crap on other systems, in the car, at the office, etc., don't say we didn't warn you. :D


i'm with the other folks here......if you can't afford monitors, use a stereo you're intimately famliar with and trust to do your mixing until you can afford real monitors. don't bother with the headphones for any mixing tasks beyond checking hard panning.

hell, you can get a set of M-Audio SP5B monitors for $200, and that's less than a new set of Sennheiser HD580's is gonna cost you. they're fantastic little monitors. quite accurate and great for acoustic music, guitar, etc......the 5in cone makes em a little weak for rock or hiphop, though.


my advice is that the cash is burning a hole in your pocket--save your money, use a stereo for a month, and save up for some real monitors.

One thing headphones are excellent for is noise reduction processing.
 
Sh*t I'll wake everyone up...that's why I needed hdphones...but lets do it as the geeks say...get speakers or monitors first...

OK ... I found a couple of used JBL Control 28 speakers... Am I in the right track??...what do you say?

Better than headphones. Thats if your mixing.
