I have a condundrum with the best way to create my drums patterns.

I have a battered old drum kit but i havn't played for years and i am not sure if i am capable of making the kind of stuff i am after.

I have an analogue drum machine (Zoom Rythmtrack 234? i think) which i bought about 4 years ago, on a whim(!!???) that is ok but is limited where i am persuing things as it only allows you to record minimum of 1 bar so you can't record extra fills etc.between patterns when piecing a 'song' together, which i want for more organic feel, ie variation in between repetition. Which in itself is a pain editing especially if something is 15 bars long.

Now i can work with the machine but i am not happy with the results, its too formal. I can have a bash at splicing pieces together in Logic but the intricacies and timing may be a little beyond me.

Or can anyone recommend a decent drum machine which has more capabilities than my old thing and has facilites to create long complex varying patterns that are easy to edit? Oh and one that doesn't cost the earth (living in London is enough as it is).

Or can i purchase a drum synth, not rebirth, something like LM4 which can running in sync with the sequencer and allows for a more creative visual based option?

Answers on a postcard could save my frustration

Cheers

Check out Fruity Loops. It's a software drum machine and easy to edit the patterns.
