Seriously, that cheap dbx stuff is horrible. The 266 series "clicks" when the compression kicks in, even at low ratios. The 166 series completely sucks the life out of anything you put into it. The only think its great at is creating a pumping muddy pile of shit.

ridiculous...

I have a few older DBX compressors that are great. I love my DBX 162 and the older silver sided 903 modules. I also used to own a couple 160X's that were very good. But I also used to own a 166A, and really it's not nearly as good as their older and/or more expensive lines in my opinion.

For a question like what's the best under $200 the RNC is going to be one of the few choices. The choices open up a lot more if you ask for the best under $500. That opens up the possibilities to the ART PRO VLA, some used Joe Meek units, used APhex Expressors, and a bunch of other stuff. Under $200 is really tough.

I just dont understand why you guys all love it. I mean, it sucks plain as day. here come the negative rep points, but I don't care anymore. I can't stand to read another thread about how great it is. and the funny part is that you guys all actually admit that it sucks at like, half the things you would want a compressor for. but there's nothing in the same price range thats better? come on. those dbx's are solid. they can handle a bass and a full mix too. your rnc can't.

So, you don't particularly like it.

That's your take on it, and I think it's cool that you're able to say something that bucks the usual trend.

Finally ... someone who actually has something BAD to say about the RNC ! !

I don't agree with you in the slightest. But I'm giving you positive rep, anyway, just for showing the kahones to give an opinion that you knew, in advance, wasn't going to be very popular.

I sell the Blue Max, the DBX, and the RNC. I've also used them in the studio (at least the 160A, and the 266XL) and there's no comparrison. The RNC is considerably better.

Also, who was thinking the RNC can't be used on a mix?? It's works quite well on a main mix. ???

Anyway, that's my $.02.

I think the one rap against the rnc, and one that I also believe to be true, is that it is not the greatest on bass.

I have yet to meet another application where it does not do well, if not outright shine.

I cannot say that about the dbx's I've owned.
