The absolute minimum for midi guitar

I'd like to be able to use my guitar as a midi input device to use with VSTIs.Can anyone tell me the absolute minimum that is required to do this.
 
I'm going to assume that something needs to go between a guitar mounted with a GK3 and my computers midi port.
 
The ones that work the best are the ones where the pickup is part of the bridge. They seem to track the best.

All you need a is the pickup, the converter and a midi cable.

If you are going for authentic representations of other instruments, you will have to learn to play the part like the instrument you are emulating.

For example: an E maj chord on a piano won't sound right if you play it like you normally would on the guitar, because the notes are in a different order.

Which converter?It isn't part of what altitude909 linked to,is it?That is only the pickup,correct?

No. A midi cable will be all you need in addition to that pickup in order to go into a single synth or a stand alone sequencer.

In order to use it with a computer you will need a USB - midi interface like this one.

I should have looked that up. The GK uses a GK (not midi) cable which needs to be interfaced with a Roland GK device (there are several) before it will spit out midi

These posts seem quite contradictory.
I definately can't afford the RolandGI20.Is there a midi pickup that I would be able to use with the M-Audio thingie?
 
Here's how it goes, there are 3 parts to the system.
1. hex pickup
2. pickup to midi converter
3. midi device (sequencer, keyboard, sound module)

I haven't looked into it in about 10 years, I'm sure there is some all-in-one solutions, but you need all three things present in order for it to work.
