Every song sounds better and better!

Great move putting the string sections in... they are not overpowering but just round off the sound really well. Great job on the backing vocals in the chorus as well, they were tucked away in the mix there and I didn't hear them the first few times I listened... but I love songs that you pick up new stuff each time you listen.

Ditto. Is that a Tele at 1:43? That tone rasied the hair on my arms. I listened to that part a couple of times ;), and noticed some kind of tiny glitch in the left side near the end of that lick. I was focusing on it or I probably wouldn't have noticed. It sounds like it might be some room noise the mic picked up.

Lots of cool stuff going on. Very tastefully arranged and recorded. You've got the hang of this, doncha?
 
May I be so bold to say that the toms are a bit dead/dry? (but that comes from a drummer whos kit is usually wide open)
Man the spaces in the 'Its alright to be afriad', plus the acoustic under it, and that one single bass note, and then the hair raising bit with the tele?... well, its just way too damn cool. Very... Floydian? Kap.
 
So now there's too much bass... man.... :)

I really appreciate the comments and compliments. And I will try and make things more lively on the next project. I'm glad that you like this type of music - somewhat depressing music. - it's what i've always enjoyed listening to. And I'm not redoing stuff (adding) at this point, just trying to mix it so I can hopefully move on.

Anyway, I won't be posting the rest of the songs as forum topics - as i'm starting to feel like some kind of mp3 spammer :)

Outstanding. I've been repeatedly playing the rough version you posted a while back and you sure fleshed this one out in a lot of ways. The vocals still need to come up a little in the places where the rest of the mix buries it. That electric guitar riff really stood out. That piano/strings line sounded like the orchestration used in the theme from "You Only Live Twice".

Oh- and your voice sounds a whole lot smoother on this take.
 
Cooperman: Thanks for the listen, I wasn't sure of the string/piano parts, but I had to put them in there because the guitars got botched somehow. I ended up deleting one of the doubled acoustics and copy/pasting to another track.

pglewis: Yes that is a Tele, the only playable electric I have. That wierd glitchy sound.. I know what you mean - it's not room noise, because it's... the POD (reminds me of soylent green for some reason).

Kaputo: Yeah your probably right, the drums could be verbed a bit more. It's just that I found it a bit much on everything else as it was. They actually are pretty effected, but all the other effects mask it.. :)

Drstawl: Yeah, that version I had before was a bit messed up. I ended up redoing, everything. I will never again record any acoustics with this Takimine direct. It's good for acoustic leads, but other than that - the Guild does a better job miced.

Downloaded this one right away. One song at a time, I'm hearing the whole CD.

Good song, Emeric. Cooperman's right, the sound's getting better as you go along.

It seems to me that on a previous song of yours, I was saying something like 'not enough bass'. On this one, the bass has got so much punch that it's percussive. I'm not trying to be a pain, honest. :)

Vocals: I don't know if you're singing better or if I'm just familiar enough with your singing to get into it. Plus, anything I say about your singing is dangerous, because recently things I've said about your singing have been coming back at me, mirror style. :) Anyway... "But what does it ma-at-ter". What if this was a slide instead of stepwise? Watch what happens when you're less precise (not this project, the next one). Having said that, 'today is over too soon' is delivered just right, plus the fade on the last note.

Architectural music.
 
Drstawl - yeah, right, you only live twice, that's how it feels exactly, but he's too young to have clocked it even unconsciously. It's a lovely movement of notes - that's partly what I mean by 'architectural'. What I like about Emeric's music it how it takes its time. If you or I learn this trick we're gonna sweep the board, I swear. Less busy-ness. Maybe we gotta hire Emeric, man. :)
 
BTW Dobro, thanks for the "young" comment... it's makes me feel so.. young. :) I don't remember this "you only live twice" thing. Sure it's in reruns though.
 
another good one...your voice has developed a recognizable style that is yer very own...well written, good feeling..that guitar tone so nice for this song...the mix had it all where it was supposed to be...gibs

I listened to this like 6 times and this is my opinion only :

First, let me say that I liked the song a lot. The vocals were great . . . the acoustics sounded great . . . the percussion . . . yeah, great ! The song was well written and arranged. If I had to do anything to change it I would A ) cut back the volume of the electric guitars during the chorus. It tends to bury the vocals . . . unless this is what you were after, but I noticed some minor distortion in the MP3 file during the chorus. B ) Thicken the electric guitars during the chorus . . . not just double tracking, but adding a second guitar playing the same chords at a higher position . . . then blend them together with good separation, but also keeping in check with suggestion A. C ) this is not critical, but maybe add guitar fills or something within the second verse to make it musically different from the first before building up to the second chorus and just before you get there . . . when the strings and piano are doing their last little downscale run, add some deep, heavy strings like cellos . . . hey, it sounds great in my head !
Again, the song is great the way it is . . . just trying to help.

Oh, and you need to keep posting individual songs . . . I'm trying to finish the Emeric album !

Emeric, fantastic job, man! It sounds great. I tried real hard to nitpick it but I couldn't. It sounds great! I eagerly await more.
 
Gibs: thanks man, I guess that's what happens when you can't find any singers in a small hick town - someone's got a do it.

Ric: Hey thanks for listing to it. Yeah, depressing music, that's where it's at :)

PAPicker: a: The electrics are kinda weird there, I did put them a bit loud because the vocals are a little weak. I didn't have a harmony in there originally, but felt it helped out but then never got back to seeing if a lower electric level there would work. b: yeah, that could work for sure, it's 2 tracks playing pretty much the same thing.
c: I tried a few lead things there, but couldn't come up with anything so left it :).
d: I don't have any cello's in this Nanopiano (ugh) - but your right that would be cool for sure. Well i'm almost done, it get's very frustrating, some of this stuff is over a year old and the recording/performance varies greatly, ah well get it done and move on. I'll post the final 5 this weekend maybe.

Cmiller: Thanks, glad it's listenable, there are always lots of things that could be improved and changed but.. then never get onto anything else.. endless loop... :)

Oh man this is GREAT! THe paino is just right- it becomes sort of a focus point for me- I like tha acoustics on this one too. I think this is your best acoustic tone I've heard so far. And the bass- the bass is perfect! It sits right where it should be. I think the kick could come up just a tad- cuz I love the sound of it! As far as vocals they are defintly (dare I say) much better- They are defintly much smoother- and the little quircks about your voice really fit the tune- Agian this reminds me of Neil Young- the chorus especially- with a little jazzynes thrown in. Awsome man! Keep them coming.
