grumpy bastard
I've been trying to sync up a Yamaha AW 16 hard disc recorder with Adobe Audition on my PC. The Yamaha AW supports Sonar, Cubase, logic and protools but surely if it sends a M.I.D.I. time code and recieves one I should be able to sync Audition up with it. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP!

Tangerine,

You may also want to try posting this question in the CEP forum; there may be more experts in Audition over there than there are here.

I'll give it a go bud. Cheers

Good luck! I'd answer you question if I could, but I don't know the answer. I'm anxious to find out myself ;)

What do you mean by 'sync up'? There are two issues. Transport Control (start, stop, play, etc) and actual sync which enables both machines to frame accurately play and record at the same time.

Transport Control uses Midi Machine Control to send the commands through MIDI.

Sync requires SMPTE Time Code or MIDI Time Code. Check your manuals and see how to setup those things on your hardware and software.

I've connected the M.I.D.I. in a hand shake ( IN TO OUT AND OUT TO IN ) so both machines can frame accurately so they can play and record at the same time. And the result was zero. I think I'm going to have to get a MOTU time piece so I can convert different time codes such as SMPTE, MMC and MTC to one another.

Cheers for your ideas guys

Ya gotta set your Yamomma to slave and the software to master using MTC. Then you hook up the two MIDI cables to and fro. Set up both for non-drop 30FPS and you should be all set. The software will run the Yamomma and you can record your song in perfect sync. Look for a "settings' screen on your Yamomma as you will have to set it there. Must be in the manual.

Forget the MOTU. This is not your problem. Your problem is the settings of the software/hardware.

I sussed it out today, I'm using the hard disc recorder as the master and the software as the slave. I've have to record track by track the backing for a band I'm playing with, these tracks are in audition so I need to sync one to the other, I only have two outputs in my arts college computer so I have to pan L and R solo each one and inject them into the AW 16 G. The AW will be taken out on the road, because the AW only has L and R outs the recordings are, left side click for the drummer and the right side goes to the main mixer with our buddy paul using it as a sub mix of the backing and adjusting accordingly during the gig as the room empties. :)
