Thank you Mom - listen and critique

I did all of this in about 3 hours time including writing the song Was a last minute gift for my mom last Sunday.
Anyways, I got some mayor clipping and unwanted noises in there, I think it may have a lot to do with my soundblaser economy soundcard
Mixing chain is everything into a small Behringer mixer, and then tape-out into soundcard line-in. A little bit of reverb on everything.

Bass - right into the mixer with no DI. A basic low-cut on the board.

Guitar - dynamic Behringer mic at 12th fret, and also directly in with no DI box.

Vocals - behringer dynamic mics.

The song's a nice song for mother's day, but quite honestly the vocals in here are pretty bad. They sorta go all over the place. The double tracked vocals don't fit that well together.
Still, good song, good idea, vocals could use work though.

I like it! The song came together very well considering the time you had to spend on it. Especially the writing part, which takes me a lot longer. I like the melody and the bridge - classic styling.... The harmonies were great - I wanted more of them after hearing the first chorus. Something about family vocals that blend together so well... You have to like a song about Mom

Is this all recorded at once, or are you tracking one part after another? What type of software are you using for recording?

As you said, there are some parts that clip - especially when your brother sings harmonies. There are also some up and down volume parts on the vocals - prevalent with a dynamic mic. You have to try and stay the exact same distance away - unless maybe you compress them. The bass sort of disappears after the intro - I liked the sound of it but missed it. Guitar pretty good too.

The overall tone/clarity is pretty good, considering the equipment. As money permits you can pick up some better gear but for now just keep that writing and recording going....

rockgardenlove - thanks for the feedback. My vocals were done in one take because there wasnt enough time. The harmonies were done in about 2-3 takes. I think the harmonies came out good but I will need to redo my vocal track.

ido - Thanks for the compliments. I'm tracking every track individually. Since I dont have a firewire or a USB interface or a soundcard with mutliple inputs or a console with busses this is the only way I can do it. I'm using a software called Acoustica Mixcraft which is a very easy to use program (way better than Audacity and very similar to Garage Band). It comes with a few effects and 10-band eq. I used their reverb. I know I was moving away from the mic at times. I'll try to retrack later on in the week and see what I come up with.

yeah i second what ido1957 was saying

the vocals in the first song remind me of a band and i cant think of their name now, anyway, i like it, if the song was recorded propper like it would be class

i listened to the second song aswell pretty much the same thing going on there, guitar is nice

best thing about both songs IMO are the lyrics
