i'd like to thank all of you guys who helped me define my (initial) microphone setup, and also picking the rest of my hardware config.
i ended up getting a C3, a couple of mxl603s, and i already had an akg3700. i also have the standard ubiquitious mackie 1202, but i'm using my direct pro's preamp for now. as for the cable discussion, i'm using kmp cables with neutrik plugs, which is the best i can find for a reasonable price, and they're doing fine.
my next acquisitions will probably be an atm25, a sm57 (or a cobalt), a couple of ecm8000s, a beyer 125 (not in the near future though), and maybe a tube amp (this list could get huge) and probably a kickass tube preamp, as soon as i get the label's advance for our upcoming album to be released this year.
