Terrible noise when recording

Trying to record in CEP 2.1. No noise present when I just use a mic or direct in on the instrument jack on my soundcard (Lexicon Lambda). However, when I want to use the metronome in CEP, or use a backing track or even record over what I have recorded on another track, it comes a terrible noise in my headphones. When I want to hear what I have recorded, the noise is all gone... So?

I have tried with Cubase LE, and there's no such problem there, so I figured it must be a setting in CEP... Thanks!

Edit: where has all the rest of the threads gone? On the main page it seems there are over 2000 threads in the CEP section alone, how can I find this?

The noise is not being recorded so it’s monitoring issue.
What do you record to second track? Vox?
Can you hear it while recording or it’s only noise you’re monitoring?
Did you try to mute line in on your player mixer?
Check your monitoring setup!

F.ex. I record two guitars. So, if I record rhythm guitar on track 1, and then I want to solo over it in track 2, the noise comes. Yes, I can basically not hear anything of what I have recorded previously then...
Have muted, yes... While it works, the problem is limitting...

Btw, I can actually hear the metronome (slightly distorted though) if I pull the level down to around -90 db...

I am still arround and thinking...
In the meantime you can try to do some tests:
1. Try to open a new session and record two guitars without using a metronome.
2. If the noise is still there, try to reinstall your audio driver.
3. Reinstall your Cool Edit.

Tried 1 and 3, without any luck... :( I guess it's not significant to install the soundcard again, as I can easily drive the Cubase LE program..?

edit: thought I could add to this: if I run f.ex. Winamp, open up CEP and press record, the noise comes, and doesn't even cease if I abort the recording. Only if I exit Winamp the noise goes away..

Why would you run winamp if you are going to record two guitar tracks?
Does it work when winamp is closed?

No, it was just an observation I made... just in case it should matter...

It just seems that when there is any sound playing while recording, other than the sound coming from the recording track itself, the noise comes. In CEP only...

Bump, and a question: are there any other forums with high activity for such recording programs ..?

I'm quite sure it's only a setting in CEP, but I don't have a clue of what it should be...

Stop recording punk bands! :p

Btw, at the bottom of the sub-forum page, there's an option for how far back you'd like to go. By default, it's at "last day" I think.

All right, it's up and working now! I might as well write what changes are necessary, so this thread can be of use later...

Enter Device Properties, look at Wave In og Out, check the «3-byte Packed PCM» boxes under «Send 32-bit audio as». Also check the «Try as WDM». Now go to Settings (F4); Multitrack, look at Defaults and Track Record and check for 32-bit (essential!!). Then you're good to go. :)

Sorry I didn't see this thread sooner.

Yes, it's a driver issue. I'm assuming you were using or had loaded ASIO drivers for your sound card. CEP was trying to utilize the WDM drivers, but because the ASIO drivers were also installed, you were receiving some feedback.

Cubase utilizes only the ASIO drivers, which is why you had no issues with that program.

If you had reinstalled the WDM drivers, and set CEP to utilize them in Device Properties, you'd have been set.

Glad you got it figured out.
