terrible accident with xr-7

I got an xr-7 from my friend who said it didn't work. I've been using it with no problems. I got a really nice song tracked on tracks 1,2,3...and then when trying to figure out how to bounce those three to track 4, I recorded over the beginning of my song!!!!!!!

I have the manual and followed the instructions, but I'm confused where it says connect soundsources A,B,C to inputs 4,5,6...does this mean I need to have a cable hooked up to inputs 4,5,6 from somewhere? How would I even do this? I thought I could select track 4 to record, and then playback tracks 1-3 and do a real-time mix-down to track 4, capturing what I already had on tracks 1-3. Obviously that's not how it went down.

Can anyone give me any advice? I know this machine is old school tech, but as long as it works I'm fine with it. I'm just demoing songs for my bandmates.

Bummer! Hate it when that happens. When bouncing tracks 1-3 to track 4, makes sure you set the recording tabs for tracks 1-3 to the middle position, not up for the track number, and not down for the L or R, but in the middle. You know the tabs, under the cassette tape on the left. Then, set track 4 down and it will be L or R, can't remember, but whichever it is, you'll need to pan channels 1-3 all the way L or R, whichever is indicated for track 4. Hit record and monitor your levels. It's really easy to overload when bouncing tracks and it makes this terrible sound. You'll notice that your transfered tracks will sound muddy and lack treble. It's a good idea to add some treble to tracks 1-3 before bouncing. That's all I can think of from memory and not being near my unit. Have fun!
