hey tim,

i solved the playback problem by going to the file tab, selecting preferences, the internal precision. i set the bit reolution to 'max 16 bit device resolution'

i have an old 16 bit adat xt (present from my wife), so 16 bit works fine for me. i know i can get better sound if i just recorded to my computer, but i'm sentimental about the machine, and i just do this for fun anyway.

also, i didn't even know about the 24 bit option described by jitteringjim. sound like it may be a better option for you. i hope it works.

good luck --- marc

Thanks... You solved my problem. Just a matter of getting the

Options----> System/Global Audio Options set properly.

I appreciate all the support. this page has been outstanding.

...

I've got the MT...works great...Terratec makes some great soundcards...mine isnt for use with A-dat, so I can't help you there. But I bet it does what it's supposed to!

Yea I agree the Terratec cards are outstanding. I initially had problems getting it to work... most of it due to my own lack of knowledge, an underpowered PC ( I upgraded), and lack of documentation.

Basically I've down loaded demos of :

Cubase, Emagic, Samplitude 5.5 and 6.0, Sonar XL+Home Studio 2000, Cool Edit Pro etc... I've gotten all of them to run properly with the exception of Sonar XL/Home Studio. There appears to be a driver problem (WDM ???)or some config issue I dont understand. I need to follow up with Terratec/Cakewalk to see if I can isolate the issue. I like the look and feel of their s/w at the price they sell it... but... if they cant support both the Terratec and sound card that came with my PC ... oh well.... The others do quit a nice job of that.

Now its a matter of which I will buy. I'm just plowing through all the functionality to see what meets my needs, look and feel etc..... But that is for other treads. Actually the Samplitude 5.5 that came with the Terratec Soundcard does an adequate job... my cheapness may rule.

Dang Tim! What did you do this time? :D

I got Sonar to work just fine with my 88D...

Ahhh who knows what I've got wrong.... basically I was able to record from my FD-8 via the TOS-Link connection to my PC via the Terratec EWS88D. But the sound was all garbled... Sounded like I was swimming underwater....

For the playback of data I had to use the soundcard that came with my PC to get the swimming underwater sound. When I use the Terratec card using the Wave Driver, that outputs through stereo output jack, ( I forgot the exact name, ... I'm at work) I keep getting an error message that the driver is not supported. I would have to get the exact message, but it really points to either the driver or settings. I have had not had the luxuray of time to dig into it...

Any idea's. I went through the "Additional Cakewake" install instructions from Terratec. Also I downloaded the latest drivers for XP. What operating system are you using? I did have Home Studio 2000 working in the past using Win98. I'm sure its some setting, preference, configuration issue.

EWS88D

I ve been using the EWS88D and a Fostex FD8 now with cubase vst 32 5.0 for over a year now and i have only had a few minor problems..namely installing new drivers..which was`nt such a big drama..but what i have found out lately through trial and error is that i can record directly on to cubase via the adat drivers on the card and initially through the FD8..with no latency!!!!...well this might be old news to you guys but it was like inventing the wheel for me!!!....i arm the track on the FD8 enable the track on Cubase..mute that track and monitor via the FD8 ...no latency!..its works as well for overdubbing and syncing with the FD8...
