Horse Diaper
I just won a Supraphonic for a reasonable price. What do you guys think? Did I get a good price on it? It looks like the 6.5s go for WAY more, but this one is a 5" and I'm sure it will sound good as well. Any more info on th is drum besides what the guy has already listed?

Ludwig Supraphonic

Its a 70's olive badge. Pretty good deal, most recorded drum of all time (supraphonic) It should sound good, they always do. not much to say about these. Try an aquarian tc head on it when you get it!

I figure for $137 I can't really go wrong. I'm not looking for a museum piece. I was just wondering why the 6.5" are more expensive. I know...more drum....but is the sound more desirable?

depends what sound you are after, the 6.5 can give you a fatter sound. Both are good. either way as you said you cant lose. There are less of them than the 5 so that tends to weigh in on the price.

Like what everyone else said, there are millions of 5 inchers. Maybe only a couple hundred thousand 6.5's. John Bonham did use the 6.5 supraphonic, so that might have something to do with it as well.

Funny that you mentioned this, as I just picked me up one also on EPay!

I just bought about 6 or 7 of those Ludwig rocker heads... pretty good for just practice and if you;re gigging alot and don;t want to over use your "good" heads!

The 5" version is very nice recorded as well. You won't be disppointed. The shells have a tendency to pit with rust, though. Judging by the ebay pics, a super-fine grade of steel wool will polish those pits right out.

Steel wool will probably scratch the chrome and leave it dull looking. Steel is stronger than chrome. Try brass wool or a brass brush along with some WD40. Brass is softer than chrome but harder than rust. Works like a charm. If you don't have a brass brush try crumpled up aluminum foil instead. WD40 also helps protect the metal from further pitting.
