I took apart a cheap telephone and for both the mic and the speaker there are a positive and negative wire. If I wanted to be able to hook these up to a mixer, how would I solder this? I get confused with all this. Thanks

The microphone part of the telephone handset most likely is an "electrect" type, that will do you no good unless you hook it up with some more electronics, like a resistor, a capacitor and a battery.

But the speaker part of the handset could be connected to your mixer.

Don't expect anything like HIFI though!!!

Depending on your mixer input, the connections could be as follows:

Jack: the + goes to tip, and the - goes to sleeve.
XLR: the + goes to pin 2, and the - goes to pins 1&3

Hope this helps,
