Telecaster pickup question

I am finally getting around to putting an old guitar I have back together. it's a Samick, and it's a pretty decent guitar - swamp ash, nice neck, etc.

A long time ago, in a far dumber state of mind, I replaced the pickups with Seymour Duncan Hot Rails. I am now thinking of putting in a decent set of single coils again.

The guitar is a tele body, and I'm figuring I'll go for that tele sound. I was looking at putting in a Seymour Duncan Broadcaster pickup in the lead, and was unsure about the rhythm pickup.

I have two questions: First, on SD's website, it says to use the broadcaster pickup in the rhythm and neck position. Does anyone have any experience with this setup compared to a more conventional style setup? Second, if I do want to go with a Tele set, with a rhythm and neck pickup, is the neck pickup on a tele a different size? I know they usually come with the metal cover, and it looks smaller. The samick is a tele style body, but has two regular strat size pickup spaces... If I get a "metal" neck pickup, will it not fit right?

Thanks!

Neck p/up is smaller than the bridge p/up. A friend of mine just did a really great job on his Tele - he has a regular Tele bridge p/up and a Strat p/up in the neck position. He also wired it so the volume is a volume (as regular) but the tone control only works with both p/ups on and acts like a blender - the more you turn it clockwise the more bridge p/up you get - counter-clockwise gives you more neck p/up..

Sounds great.

Get a new pickguard if the pickup isn't the right size.

You need to base your pickup decision on the sound you want.

There is no pickguard - the pickups are mounted directly to the body. I'm going to contact Bill Lawrence and see what kinds of suggestions he has for the guitar.

EDIT: Just to clarify... I basically have been stupid and didn't look as closely at the guitar as I should have. It has mountings for 2 strat size pickups, and though it is shaped like a tele, it is not a traditional tele body.

I would like to get close to a tele sound out of it, but I would need to find someone that makes pickups that sound similar to a tele that come in a strat configuration. Because of this dilemma, I am going to seee if I can find someone to make a couple. If not, I'll throw a couple of strat pups in there I guess. I don't want to invest the cash to reroute the body on this guitar.

seymore duncan has a cd that demonstrates the sound of each tele replacement pick up they make. i got a copy from my music store.you could find it (download)on the net,im sure

You should still be able to put a Tele set in it even if it is routed for a Strat single coil at the neck. Is it routed for 3 pickups or just 2?

Actually, it looks kind of like the tele neck pickup might work, because the mount are on the side of the pickup, but on the bridge pickup it is set up differently than the strat pups, and I don't think it would even fit right in the hole in the body. I can post pictures of the body if people are really curious. lol
