I'm hoping to get some advice from some of you. I had a Mint Teac X2000R R/R I bought this deck in 2002 thinking I would use it for my analog studio I was putting together at home. My needs went in another direction in the form of a 1/4 half track. Anyway, point is.. I never really used this Unit. I recorded some songs from the receiver (radio) and played this recording back maybe twice a year. Two years ago I noticed the playback was dragging. I instantly knew the capstan belt had probably hardened or stretched to the point of needing replacement. I did that. It played fine again after.

Now to my point. I recently decided to clean house on some things I was no longer using. The Teac being one of them. So I cleaned it up and sold it on Flea-bay. It went to a buyer in Florida. After it arrived, he contacted me to say how he loved it, and it plays fine BUT...."It won't Record" It also does not erase. This is when I started to think..why didn't I check that..and thinking I know it did, and how long had it actually been since I made that Radio recording!
Well it has been 9 years since! I'm thinking a couple of things 1. Bias OSC 2. I pulled a connector when I did the belt change, and 3. corroded rec mode switch, or 4. I haven't a clue!

Here is the advice part. What should I do? I have no problem taking it back, and offering a full refund. My only concern, what will the condition be after another coast to coast trip. I have talked to the buyer, and he says he wants the R/R if he ships it back (a $110) expense to me, and I fix it. Heres my thoughts,to try and locate a repair tech in the Jacksonville FL area and pay to have it looked at, and possibly repaired. Within reason of course. Problem is I know of no such person.

Would anyone viewing this know of a candidate?

Maybe,...

another Sticky Shed tape related problem?

I've seen where a deck might to play back okay with gunk on the heads, but it won't record.

Ask if he's using brand new tapes or old ones, and if he's cleaned the heads thoroughly.

I'm hoping for the best for you.

:spank::eek:;)

Don't think thats an issue. I cleaned the heads thoroughly before shipping it off. Also He claims, the recording test, was early on in his receiving the unit. He also claims, to have tried several Tapes. Man... If I only would have tested it prior!

Thanks, Reel Person.

On the Teac website is a list of authorized servicers.There may be one there.I know Tom at AMP Services,(West Palm Beach), can fix it.

Thanks wkrbee. I will look at that. I haven't heard anything from the buyer in a few day's since I offered to pay up to $200 to have a (different) local Tech take a look at it, and possibly fix it. I also downloaded the service manual, along with the schematics sheets. I see the Bias OSC (U307) is 150kHz.
