Hello, this is my first post on this forum, which is fun because I have read countless threads before.
Anyways, I just bought this TEAC 144 yesterday, took it home and did some cosmetic cleaning as the unit seemed to be very dirty. Waited the night and plugged it in today to see if it works, I just put a regular cassette inside of it and it played it fine, all the mechanical parts such as ff, rewind, play, pause, stop and the memory work. Moving forward, I plugged a guitar directly into input D as suggested on the manual for recording the track. Though some of the pots are definitely dirty, I got signal and the trim and EQ work fine. If you follow the manual directly for recording the first track it says to put the pan all the way left or right to assign the buss and then to press track 1 button on record select, which is exactly what I did. The catch is that it says record light will start flashing and the L/Trk 1 VU meter would be the only one illuminated and show the levels. Both of those things did not happen. Another weird thing is, I am on cue mode and it says I should get a mono mix, but I hear my instrument pan left instead of it being mono. Last weird thing is that when playing a cassette on cue mode, the sound is absolutely quiet, even with the tape cue knobs turned all the way up, I could really hear it when on remix mode.
That is all, I don't have much knowledge with electrical circuits, but my bandmates do, so if anyone has any suggestions on how to go about fixing this please let me know.
