I sincerely doubt the veracity of your quoted statement.[/QUOTE said:
Hey. I just wanted to say that I am well aware of the heritage of Martin guitars, which I think is awesome. I play a Gibson Les Paul, and it has the same kind of history behind it, albeit not as long. I have played every Martin I've had a chance to, so at least many dozen since I started playing 22 years ago. I think the problem with Martins for me is that I am primarily an electric player, and Martins ( at least the many I've tried) feel nothing like an electric. My guitars have very low action, and I use light strings, which makes them super easy to play. The other thing is that in comparison with Taylors, which seem to have a much brighter sound, Martins are well, kind of dead and flat sounding to me. The first Martin I ever played belonged to my friends father, and it was really bad - the strings were old, the action was high, and it had no body to it's sound. From there, the mystique and reputation always frustrated me because I've never found it. I mean no disrespect by saying that I hate the feel and sound of a Martin - I started the thread to see if anyone else had had the same experience/opinion. I guess it's just all in what you like.
