Does anyone knows if that TAXI thing is as good as they say?

Did someone actually made money out of it?

Looks like a ripoff

Cyberdude,

Looks like a total ripoff, i see that you have to pay them $300 to be a member and they don't really spell out they'll do for you. I smell a huge scam there.

That's what I was thinking too...
How do you proceed to get your material some attention?
Do you contact A&R/publishers first, then send your songs?

Or what.

Help!

If you go to Barnes and Noble, or any good bookstore you will find a number of books that are for artists wishing to promote their material. These books will list many record companies and tell you which ones are open to submissions and what style or genre they are looking for and lot's of other tips too including management, A & R, publishing etc...

A C&W song writer that records in my studio joined Taxi. He sent songs in and they provided feedback on the material (actually very professional and useful feedback). He kept re-writing and re-recording (good for me but costly for him - in particular bringing the singers back in).

Long story short we did get one song published (I say we since he gave me 25% writer credit).

Problem is, as many of you may know - getting published don't mean a thing if you don't get recorded - and getting recorded don't mean a thing if nobody buys the recording.

Is Taxi a rip off? I don't think so (but then again, it wasn't my membership). Does Taxi replace the age old formula of doing gigs, making calls, pounding on doors, taking rejection over and over and trying again? No!

Taxi is just another option for musicians. If you become a better writer because of it, I think it's definitely worth the $300. It's not a magic pill though. You still have to work.

join Taxi for the critiques, because getting forwarded is like winning the lottery. :D
It's always possible, but don't think that your $300 will get you any closer to the industry.

dont join without fully expecting to change your music to fit their needs. Their clients have specific needs and they are extremely picky ... you have to change your style to meet what they need. That's hard to do.

If you think that your music is "art" and Taxi should just accept it and get you a record contract, then save your money for a cool tube mic-pre. :)

Tell ya what..........
You send me $200 and I'll critique your work!
I went to a Taxi membership seminar here in Miami-
heard the spiel, had heard it before in L.A. and N.Y.C.
Perfect scam for songwriters though- most writers are ripe for the ol' "I can make you a star" rip.
Shop your own stuff. The rejection is good for you, and they won't charge you to tell you that you suck!

A lot of people I know tried it and it never did much for them ... and these folks were a LOT more commercial than the experimental off the wall stuff I usually do so I never really gave it a second thought.

I think there are much better outlets for this. You may be better off saving your money for a good manager and promoter if you're really looking to go that way.
