Pash,

HaHaHaHa

I'm back........

I have been toying with the idea of serialized CD production
to put a firm base under a small production facility.
What I mean is developing what could be coined "Audio Zine"
products which feature voice over/music combinations.
The products would come out monthly/bimonthly and once market concept is developed, sold through magazine racks. (complete with advertising)..

Concepts I'm thinking about:

Radio style mystery stories. (remember "The Shadow"??)

Jam Tracks---a selection of grooves, possibly with instruction
for musicians that want to jam to a live feel but can't get out...

A current affairs bitch session where people phone in their comments for inclusion (Weekly) ala Howard Stern for small markets.

Us small guys have to help each other out if we can...

Graham.

The Jam Tracks idea is stellar

Rock, Jazz, Country, Funk, R&B

Great for everyone from Horn players down to drummers ( music on one side click on the other ).
You might have something.
Cheers

Hey Pash,

All my ideas are public domain...

I only view my market reach as being regional...

If we had a strong informal network of regional producers, we
would really have something to build on....

If you think any of my ideas might work for you, feel free
to use them..

As one of our famous philosophers, Red Green would say:

We're all in this together.........

I'm confused by your comment about what you think I am leading people to believe. You and I are on the same page; being a musician definitely involved a lot more than just making music.

Let's talk about paying dues though. Years of paying dues? Only if you don't learn your lesson the first time around and keep making the same mistakes over, and over, and over...

OK I read... and read... and read ... and read... now I gotta add my 2 cents worth (which is like one tenth of a cent US I believe).

Everyone is attacking everyone and several people are attacking Dave... I don't know Dave... I don't know most of you all... You'll notice I joined WAY back in Sept 2000 ... but I'm still a noobie. Why? Because I'm busy doing something with my music. Lemme clarify this (as I will no doubt be targeted for what I'm about to say)

I am and have ALWAYS been a "numbers" guy. So lemme put it into the universal language of mathematics:

(NOTE: The following is based on a BAND that performs live)
(a) You record and package your CD (ON YOUR OWN)
(b) You Sell it at shows and pass out free ones at clinics
(c) You manage to make a few bucks in the process to use on making more CDs to Sell and give out...
(d) A friend tells you about indiebiz.com and you check it out...
(e) Sounds good... you buy in and look around... don't like what you see and walk away pissed...

Q: What went wrong with this formula?
A: They didn't DO any of the things they were told to do.

Based on what I've read it seems that some of you (who in your own right have EARNED your break) aren't willing to actually do what you NEED to do.

And now the MATH lesson:

You spend $99.00 ($160.00+ CNDN) to sign up - you follow a few SIMPLE suggestions and manage to sell an extra $99.00 ($160.00+ CNDN) worth of CDs throughout the year... guess what... the site didn't cost a damn thing... and if you manage to make a little more than Dave did his job...

As for his book $100,000.00 .... Did anyone actually READ the TITLE before slamming the man??? Or can y'all speak english?

the title is: "How I Make $100,000/ year In The Music Business"

NOT "How YOU can make $100,000/ year In The Music Business"

I've never read the book, but I'm 100000% positive he doesn't make any claim that you'll make that much... but like ANY lesson in life if you walk away with 1 thing from that book you can actually use than it's paid for itself.

You guys sound like my cousins for crying out loud!! Both always broke and both gunna "get rich" in the latest pyramid (ooops sorry... we call it "network marketing" now) scam... they sign on then 1-2 weeks later (or in one persons's case 15min??? LOL) decide they didn't get thier $100k fast enough! and quit....

I find it impossible to believe you (and I'm not even sure who I'm aiming this at cause I read the post about 30min ago) read EVERYTHING on his site in 15min... and if you didn't then OBVIOUSLY you won't find anything useful... cause you weren't willing to put forth the EFFORT to find something you COULD use.

It all comes down to this I guess...

"I'f I can't have it in the next 5 minutes... it's not worth the work!"

In all that mess I completely forgot to mention this...

Hey Tanlith

Thanks for the comments about the songs. Hell Im two hrs away in London ont were almost neighbors.
The Dave stuff is pretty much done. This is not my first time at the dance and all of my comments I stand by.
A I said previous I joined for some specific reasons that were advertized and are still advertized on the opening page. Fifteen minutes on the site was for a guy who has been in the music industry for 27 years full time is plenty of time to know when its just a pile of press and information that is available for free on many other sites. Damn I even sent Dave an email with the links to all the sites. Taxi gladly refunded when I joined them and discovered again not a good fit. Indibiz told me to take a hike.
You can think and do as you wish Tanlith Im not making shit up ....this is not third party info ........just the way it is.
The business advice I gave a few pages back about unhappy clients and acceptable losses that Dave now seems to have put into play must be worth $100.00 or a tank of gas.
You know what's scary to me is that I could do what Dave does in a heartbeat and Im pretty sure I would be good at it........ahhh .....a branch office. INDIBIZCANADA.COM

maybe I'll try that porno thing instead

Tanlith,
That was a good post dude, but if you go back and read David's post where he defends his book, turns out that it's not even him that claims to make the 100K. He co-wrote it with someone that actually makes that kind of money.......HHHHHMMMMM.... I won't even go there.

Actually that's exactly what I was referring to... you've been doing this long enough that Dave has nothing to offer YOU. But to someone starting out he may be able to help them get to the point where they can actually make money at it. His service may not be for everyone, but I'm sure it's useful info to someone... As for not giving you a refund after only using the site for 15min... that's pretty shitty. I dunno what the LEGAL aspect of that is in the US, but in Canada I know for a fact you can back out of ANY contract (signed or not) within 72 hrs. (Or was it 48hrs??)

(Lawyers have their uses.... mine's great in bed! --- and is handy for legal advice in exchange for ummm.... services :D --- hey I figure they screw people regularly ... now it's my turn!! )

Exactly. The money I make every year doesn't matter because the book isn't about that.

I think my basic point was missed... probably my own fault for being so long winded! :p

Lemme try to sum this up briefly:

Let's say I have a formula for doing a specific task... and in doing this task I'm able to make $100,000/yr

Now I share my formula with you - in detail. But you're NOT able to make $100,000/yr ... even if you do EXACTLY what I outline TO THE LETTER.

Now lets say your friend follows the formula and he IS able to make $100,000/yr... did you do something wrong??

Not necessarily... it just means it doesn't work for YOU.

It's kinda like delivering a joke... You hear someone tell a joke and everyone laughs thier ass off... next day you tell the joke at work and everyone looks at you like you've got 3 heads... It's not the info that's bad... it's weather or not you can use it EFFECTIVELY for YOU!

Dave... if some of the people who've used your service are happy with it, then you did your job well.

However, I do think it was rather shitty not to refund pashop's money... he did after all conclude within 15 min that it was not for him. I see this type of thing and can't help but ask what's happened to the lost art of customer service?

The road to musical success is a long one and I expect people to work with me and stick with it. If you're going to get frustrated because you don't like the process, is that my fault?

I am happy to offer a guarantee, but it's not a one-sided deal. I'm looking for clients who are willing to work with me, not curiosity seekers who simply want a peek inside.

As your post mentions, what works for one person may not work for the next...and that is why I want people to work with me. I understand that people are in different situations. When something doesn't work for somebody, we change things up and try again. This can take days, weeks, and sometimes months...which is why I ask that people try the service for one year.

I disagree that PAShop has nothing to learn from IndieBiz.com. We work with bands, musicians, and labels of all levels.

"Client List
Marcy Playground is New York based, alternative pop trio best known for their single, "Sex and Candy," Their self-titled debut was released on EMI Records. They are currently signed to Capitol."

That's funny. Capitol Records doesn't list a "Marcy Playground. At best, this is dated information. At worst, it is a lie.

Sheep On Drugs....uh-huh.

Bush – No longer listed with Interscope

Lords Of Acid – Antler-Subway – Label’s web site is non-existent

The Murmurs – not listed on MCA.

Blue Mountain – Not listed on Roadrunner Records

Dionne Farris – Not listed at Sony.

There is a word for this. It's called "fraud".:D
