Hi people,
This is going to sound dumb.. (newbie question) but...
Do I need another soundcard if I already have a Tascam US-122L USB interface?
Situation:
I'm about to put together a new (2nd) computer with music use in mind.
We already have a Tascam US 122L bought last year which never worked (with its included Cubase LE software) on our 6 year old 2nd computer (not enough power, memory, etc). Kept crashing, not functioning. Hence the need for a new computer.
Q: With the new computer, will I need to buy an additional soundcard for music use? or is the Tascam already a reasonably adequate soundcard as well as an interface? Sorry, kinda lost here..
Of course, the computer will have its own basic soundcard (part of the motherboard I think?) but will I need to anticipate a separate dedicated soundcard as well ? I was sold the Tascam as an interface instruments-computer but have since been told its a soundcard as well..?!?
Use: Input for 1-2 keyboard(s), 2 mics and an electric guitar and perhaps (much later) possibly other instruments from a small group.
Why? Recording and perhaps real time playback with sampling software.
Software: ?? Cubase LE, Guitar Pro, and possibly a sampler for our Roland digital piano and Yamaha synth. Maybe others. We have an old version of Band-in-the Box.
OS: Probably Windows XP 32 bits.
Budget: Not too excessive but might be prepared to invest - if I need to get it right.
Any helpful advice enormously appreciated...
