Hi

Is this souncard any good? If a bought it could i expand the number of inputs later on down the line?

Thanks
Jamie

i wouldn't recomend it to be honest - you won't be able to increase the number of channels down the line - and the USB can cause some problems with WIn xp. I had it for about a yr and it's going on ebay pretty soon!

personally for a two channel card i would get the emu 1212 pci card - 2 ins 2 outs like the tascam but zero latnecy monitoring and dsp - so any plugins that you use (up to 16)won't effect your pc's performance.

in the long run it's probably better to save up and get a multichannel card if u think that in the future you're going to need the extra channels.

just my opinion after wanting to get more into recording and doing lots of research into different soundcards.

drums - they're a killer cos u want to record them - but the noise and the extra cost!

i started on a us122. its ok. it worked fine for me to learn on. usb has its problems. but if you're just learning it'll be fine. it does have phantom power and inserts on each channel.

i've recently upgraded to a presonus firepod so i'm giving the tascam to a friend of mine.

The only thing about the emu is there are no preamp's although i can probably pick a seperate one up easily enough.
What about plugging the xlr outs on my amp straight into it, is it possible?

I just checked out a reiview of the Soundcraft Compact 4 mixer. It looks bloody brilliant, there was also a few clips of it in action and it sounded great, here's a link to the page.

Is buying this and the emu a good idea?

I have to disagree with usb "being a problem" because I have had the 428 for almost a year running xp home and have never had a problem with it.

It depends on what you're requirements are. If you need more than 2 tracks of 24 bit, low latency etc. then you're stuffed with usb

Is this right?

use the direct outs on the mixer and plug them into the inputs of the delta 44(or other soundcard). i then have preamps on all those channels. This wouldnt work with the emu 1212m as there are only two inputs, i would only have two channels. The only thing i could do would be to get some kind of adat interface and plug it into the adat input on the emu to have more channels.

That's right, the e-mu 1212 has 2 analog ins & will give you another 8 inputs, but you need an adat output device like the berri ADA8000 to drive it.

Out of your mixer, the delta 44 will give you 4 analog ins, and for another $70 the delta1010LT will give you 8
