Do these units only operate with Tascam power adapters? I was given a used 4 track, sans ac adapter, and it will not power on while using a generic 12v adapter. I don't know if there's some other problem with it, or if it simply is designed to operate only w/ Tascam adapters. Anybody know?? Thanks.

it should say on the unit what kind of power it needs ........ whether it needs AC or DC and how many volts and the polarity..
It's not possible for them to not take power just because it's not a TAscam supply as long as it's the correct power and polarity (if DC) so I'm guessing that generic either isn't the right polarity or voltage or (uh-oh) is AC when you need DC or vice versa.
If that last one's the case ...... you may have damaged something so you need to check where the power supply plugs in and see what it needs.
It's actually not ok to just plug in any old supply without knowing for sure what it requires.
Does it power on with any other adapter or is the generic the only one you've tried?

Which model of Portastudio do you have? Each one has different current demands as well as the plug needing to be of a specific style, size and polarity.

Most generic wall warts don't put out enough current to drive a Portastudio from what I have seen of the ones sold at Radio Shack or similar retailers. You may need to buy the original PS from TASCAM to get the current your unit requires.

Cheers! :)

Hi guys,

I need a power supply for my Tascam 424 MK3, where can I find one? There's one on ebay but it's $55 inc shipping, seems V expensive?
