Hey guys,
Brand new to homerecording.com, came here in hopes of finding some tips on how to salvage a recently acquired Tascam Porta One Ministudio. I'm running it off batteries and have powered it up for the first time since I found it for free at a garage sale, everything seemed to be running fine. Right off the bat, I wasn't getting any left channel out of the headphone monitoring, but when I switched the "Monitor" switch to "Cue" instead of "Remix", I got sound in both ears.
When I went to record, that's when I noticed the issue. It seems this particular porta one just hates the left, because when monitoring levels going into any channel, if you pan it all the way to the left on any given input, the VU still bounces up and down, but the sound completely disappears from the headphones. Similarly, whenever I switch either of the "record function" buttons to assign a left or right bus, the only one the lights up and has a responsive VU meter is Buss R/Trk2. Even if I'm just assigning Buss L to either track 1 or 3, Buss R/Trk2 will still be the only one responsive. I tested recording in a variety of different buss configurations, and each one only yielded a playback from the right channel.
My initial thought is that the left channel on this bad boy is just dead. But everything going exclusively to Buss R/Trk 2 despite trying to assign a Buss L has thrown me for a loop, like maybe it's not so black and white as far as what the problem was. If it was just a dead left channel, wouldn't everything just be non-responsive when assigning a Left Buss?
Anyways, I'm clearly stumped, any help or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
