TASCAM Ministudio Porta02 (Stereo Help)

Hey there everyone. I am new to this forum and I hope this is the right place to post this.

I have been using my little TASCAM Ministudio for awhile now and recently purchased a Scarlett Focusrite 2i2 to rip the recordings from cassette. I have mixed everything on the actual recorder, but I have decided to mix in stereo this time, something I haven't done before. I like how everything sounds on the actual recorder but when I rip it onto my PC it doesn't sound the same. I've tried with multiple different cables to get a stereo rip onto my computer but to no luck.

Does anyone have any advice on how to rip an already mixed, stereo recording from this device onto my computer?

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Can you tell us your procedure?

What Tascam outputs and Focusrite inputs are you using and with what cable(s)?

The RCA line out jacks on your TASCAM should make good inputs for the Scarlett. Left and Right. You will need RCA to 1/4 inch cables for this.

This is what should work:

1. Run RCA cables from the L/R Line Out jacks of the Tascam to the inputs 1 & 2 of the Scarlet. You'll need either RCA (female)-to-1/4" (male) adapters or RCA-to-1/4" cables (as JLondon said) to do this.

2. Set up your mix the way you want it in the Tascam (everything panned as you'd like it).

3. Open your DAW program (whatever it is) and arm a stereo track for recording (or two mono tracks if you'd prefer). Assign the Scarlet's inputs for this track (or input 1 for track 1 and input 2 for track 2 if you'd doing 2 mono tracks).

4. Play the tape on the Tascam and check the levels on the DAW. When they're good, record the mix on the DAW.

5. That's it. Note: If you're using 2 mono tracks on the DAW (instead of one stereo track), then you'll need to pan track 1 full left and pan track 2 full right in order to hear the stereo mix as it is on the Tascam.
