I purchased a Tascam M-3500 mixer. It seems to work well and does what I need, but I am having a nightmare with effects loops. As suggested in their manual, I am using Aux 1 and 2 for headphones signal. I connected a digital delay to Aux 3 and the return it to effects 1. Every time I press the 3-4 aux button, I lose the headphones. If I unpress 3-4, the signal to the delay goes away. I changed the output to Aux 5, that helps a little. But in either case all I can get is full effects return in the headphones and on the recording. The book says you can blend raw versus effects loops, but I cannot figure how to do this. I can get raw signal only by completely bypassing the effects loop totally. If I use the effects loop, all I can get is 100% effects loop. Help! How do I wire and control these effects, it’s driving me out of my mind. I’ll greatly appreciate your help. Thanks

I generally find it more convenient to return effects to normal channels. That lets me route them as needed and also use the channel eq on them.

Thank you for your reply. I upgraded to it for my home studio from a Tascam 2516. I like the 3500 for a lot of reasons, but it’s tricky getting things routed. I’ll try what you suggest, that would be easier and makes more sense. Do you think using Aux 1 and 2 for headphones is a good idea, or should I try something else? Thanks again. Steve

I have spent the last five minutes trying to find a block diagram for that mixer to no avail. I would suggest you try to find one even if it means paying for it. In fact it is probably better to buy a full service manual because you are bound at some point going to need to service it and a tech will need such a document...OR he will charge you for finding one...I would !

Dave.

Use channels for effects returns. You essentially have 48 line inputs
