tascam dp01/fx 8 track with cd burner?

anyone familair with this? I am pretty newbiesh at digital. what does "uncompressed" cd quality mean?

does it mean you cant add compression? because that wouldnt make sense. any ideas on this thang?
 
Uncompressed CD Quality

means that it records straight to "CD-quality" (CD-standard) data format, that being 16-bit/44.1kHz/stereo, and it's DATA SET or DATA STREAM is not "compressed" to another form such as mp3 or ATRAC, like the Pocketstudio5 or minidisc. If it's not at least 16-bit/44.1kHz/stereo, it's considered a "compressed" format, any way you slice it. It's also hinging on the idea that 16-bit/44.1kHz/stereo Linear PCM is the "CD-quality" standard that e'thing should be based on, and/or judged by as a benchmark standard.

It has nothing to do with compressing the sound, whatsoever. :eek: :eek: ;)

It also means it lends itself to music being easily transported via pc transfer,...

audio and data cd's. There is no data conversion necessary to go from a "CD-quality" data set to an audio CD, (other than the act of writing of the CD itself). To the best my knowledge, all consumer audio CD players read a 16-bit/44.1kHz/stereo data stream. But of course, a wav file disc and an audio CD are different,... but that's another post! :eek: ;)

See? When you're talking about "CD-quality", it all add$ up! :eek: ;)
 
As to whether anyone can actually hear a difference between CD-quality & compressed

formats,... the jury is still out on that & I'd feel safe to say there's no concensus. :eek: ;) Makes great fodder for bbs flame wars, though! :eek: ;)

wow....big bummer this is getting really crazy. we (teac techs) seem to think the problem now HAS to be the power transformer.This was the "record skipping" sound Im getting on any tape, new, recorded,etc. First they soldered a couple of rca jax, did zip....then they were sure it must have been the capstan motor, replaced that.(just got it back). they road tested it for a few days...no noise, so they shipped it back. Now they were not using my power transformer at Teac. No noise whatsoever. I got it back let it establish its karma in my studio, plugged it up....sounds balls to the walls...crystal clean...i was all smiles. But it did this last time. So when I shut it down and turn it back on a few hours later...ITS BACK....(the noise) seems when the power transormer gets warmed up, thats when the noise starts. even had teac call me and held my phone up so they could hear it, no ? about the noise. I thought maybe it was doing what an amp will do when its on the same circiut like a cell phone, or dryer or something. my studio is on its own circuit. took it to a neighbors house, same thing. so we are convinced it has to be the transformer.teacs shipping me a new one Monday, and Im confident it will be cool. If not, you can watch my psychotic breakdown on CNN, or FOX as I will jump off the nearst high bridge. never seen the Golden Gate, maybe I will fly to Cally and jump off it.

I will keep ya posted.
