Hi
I'm new to this forum, so be gentle...

I have recently bought a Tascam DP 02 digital 8 track recorder. Very nice piece of kit. HOWEVER...

I have recorded a song. I bounced the rhythm guitar, bass and drums to track 7 and 8. I then recorded 3 lead guitar parts in tracks 1, 2 and 3, then put some vocals on track 4. At this point the unit is telling me that there isnt any memory left. I have deleted the history, but it is still too full to bounce down to a master track. This is very frustrating as that is the only thing left to do.

How could I free up more space and why / how is the 40gb harddrive full? I would have thought there would be plenty of space. And is there a way of deleting just one track rather than the whole song? Also, is it possible to buy a bigger memory card? I can't seem to find one online.

Thanks for your time.

Hi

I don't know the machine in question, but on my Yamaha AW4416, which is old and only has a 12GB hard drive, I can record a whole album, so definitely something wrong.

Generally with these types of devices, everything you ever record is stored - so all the mis-takes, edits, stuff ups etc. And they all take up disc space. Once you have all the correct takes and have got rid of any virtual / stacked tracks you no longer need, there's a process which on my machine is called "optimisation" which basically deletes all that excess data so that all you have left is what you want.

They work that way because they have UNDO type capabilities, and generally pretty deep / big ones - and you can't undo without storing all the data.

Look for a similar function on your machine. Surely there's a FAQ in your manual somewhere that addresses this problem too?

Good luck...
