Sorry if this question is painfully obvious to most of you, but I'm looking to buy my first multi-track recorder, and I don't know much about it.

The model I'm considering is the new Tascam DP-008. http://tascam.com/products/dp-008.html
It seems to fit my basic needs, but it appears there is no way to use any external effects, if so desired. The unit does come equipped with basic on-board reverb modes and equalizers however.

Am I reading/understanding this correctly? If at some point I wanted to touch up the music/vocals with some external processing is there a way to do it? Even if the method is a bit clumsy. Or am I pretty much stuck with what I have?

I don't see any send/return loop jacks on it. I think you would have to step up to a DP-02 to get the outboard effects loop connectivity.

Yeah I just got one of these too. Can't we download all 8 tracks to a computer USB port and load them into some kind of computer recording software and add echo and Phanging to individual tracs and then upload it back to the DP008

You can, but I think he was wanting to run to outboard sound effects equipment, perhaps in real time while recording.

The only way to really do what he's looking for besides the export way is to use a the effect on the way in while recording there by printing the effect to the track, If done right it will sound just fine(Use to do this way back when).

Just be tasteful:drunk:.
