Tascam as mixer

I'm just getting into p.c. recording and am wondering if my old Tascam porta 05 would make a suitable pre-amp/ mixer to get started.I'm using N-Track on XP with a soundblaster 5.1 sound card.

Roy, I used my old Fostex 480 for exactly that purpose for about two years before I upgraded and got a dedicated DAW. If you know the Porta 05 by heart, and are able to live with its limitations, fine recordings are indeed possible.
