I have a Tascam 788 8-track digital recorder and want to be able to copy the recorded data from the recorder to my home pc. Then I want to be able to mix the songs using Cakewalk (not sure which product) on the computer and then burn to CD on the computer.

Questions:

1. How do I hook the recorder to the pc? Special card? SCSII? I do have a cable since I also own the 788 cd burner.

2. Which Cakewalk product would be the right one for me?

I believe later software versions have the facility to export files as .wav using the CD-R burner.

I'm not exactly sure what benefit you are expecting to gain from using Cakewalk to mix the audio but you might want to check out the 788 Virtual Instrument panel for Cakewalk which I think is still available to download from the Tascam site. This let's you control the 788 via MIDI. Can't say I've really used it - I much prefer a "real" fader!

Personally, I use Cakewalk as a MIDI sequencer slaved to the 788 then combine the audio with the soft / hard synths using the PC's onboard mixer at mixdown for which I use Soundforge.

your burner..

..so does that mean you won't need your CD burner any more?? :) ..I'm interested if you're selling!!
