I have a Tascam 424MKIII 4-Track recorder. Iam recording drums, bass, piano, and 2 guitars. The recorder records fine, but on the playback it seems the track (drums normally), playback alot softer than it should be. Is this a mic problem, or is it my 4-track recorder? Much help is appreciated.

It may be that you did not set the trim high enough while recording? I have had this problem also.

Recording is an artform in itself.

Mic placement on acoustic instruments is a huge challenge. You want to get the strongest possible signal on tape, without sacrificing the dynamic range inherent in a great performance.

What to do? Describe what you have done and we'll give a shot at improving it.

You have a monitor "cue" for each track you record on. It is the effect 2/cue knob. Make sure that is turned up on the track that is soft. If your recorded level was soft, your level LED meter would tell you. It would only light up one or two segments. If that is not the case, I'll bet it is your monitor cue level.
