tascam 424mkIII preamps

I am running instruments and mics through the tascam and then into the computer sound card. I am getting good signals for the instruments, but I am having trouble getting a hot signal for the mics. I have some sm57s going in that I peak out on the board but then the outbound signal to the computer is low.
Are the preamps on this board have enough to put out a hot signal to the computer?

Are you using Impedance transducers on your mics? You need to if they are dynamics. What type of mics do you have?
