Tascam 414/424 help

Hi,
I am intersested in buying a tascam 414 mkII or a Tascam 424 mkIII. I would like to know what is the L buss and R buss functions on the 424, what do they do etc, for the mono channels on the unit. And also are the 414's 4 inputs stereo or are some mono? And just one more thing, how many stereo and how many mono tracks does the 424 mkIII have?

All of the channels are what I would call mono. But they are pannable left and right. And there is left and right output to your mix down machine and left and right monitor sends.
To record stereo you would use two mics and two channels or tracks of the recorder one paned left and one paned right with a seperate mic in each one for a stereo sound field.
 
Actually I mean how many stereo and how many mono channels on the tascam 424 mkIII
