tascam 388 help

I am a beginner and have just set up a Tascam 388, reel to reel, 1/4 inch at home. The machine is in very good condition and was working fine until it just stopped playing, fastforwarding and rewinding. I have no manual. I was able to record about fifteen minutes of music and everything seemed to be working. Any insight? Thanks.

Open up the top cover and check all the fuses.

I'll bet there are one or more blown or defunct fuses. /DA

when you say open up the cover, what does that mean exactly? is the cover where the reels are? thanks, and sorry for my ignorance.

all of the fuses are fine. i believe it may need some adjusting where the reels are. is this something i can do myself?

Is there life in the motor when you try to fast forward / play etc. ?

yes there is life. it seems to play for a second, then stops.
