Tascam 38 VS. TEAC 80-8

Hello all,
I'm going to be purchasing an 8 track and i was hoping some of you could help me decide which one.
I currently own a Teac 3340S and A 6100. I am happy with both (a little noisy at times but i have no nr yet) but my new project will require more track capability. I've read various posts and i'm leaning towards the 80-8, due to the fact it seems to have a "robust" reputation as far as build and sound goes. But the punch in feature on the 38 (only?) is appealing as well.
The intial project was more of a guitar based Rock/Country style and the 3340S worked out great.
This next project is more beat / sample sequencing based.
I use Joe Meek and Presonus outbborad gear, and i bounce tracks to computer when need be (usually to edit performances).
Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated.

I think at this point in time, decades after each of those machines was introduced, you should just pick the one which is in better condition. Yes, the 80-8 was a better built machine but it's a 30 year old design and you're probably gonna find a better condition 38 than a nice and mint 80-8. Both machines will sound more or less comparable but on the other hand, if still made today, I'd easily pick the 80-8 over the 38 for its better overall quality design/built. Again, just pick the one in better condition.

Thank you Daniel for the reply, Unfortunately most machines are available on Ebay, where there is a huge trust/ guess factor involved in deciphering which machine is in the best condition
 
Watch the NYC craigslist like a hawk. You'll find a decent machine in no time.

Exactly like Chris said. NYC is really one of the best places to come accross a good machine, if you look at the craigslist.com board and other local papers and online classifieds. Just pick any machine which satisfies your needs, that is in good cond, and go with it. Bottom line, it should be relatively easy in NYC. :)
