I just brought from a friend a Tascam 2488 for £150.

I thought it was a well bargin . Its not the mark II or the Neo but the first edition of the 2488.

What appealed to me was the 24 bit recording option.

I have the new DP -008 which is great but the 2488 has 8 simaltanious imputs and 4 of them XLR phamtom powered.

Anyone here have this version?

I used the original Mk1 in a very tiny local demo studio for several years. We did basic demos, live events, and embarrassingly enough, recorded Karaoke birthday parties for large groups of screaming little girls (Still have nightmares, the same six or seven pop songs sung by pre teen girls played over and over and over....) It was a good, tough machine, never gave me any error messages or really any problems at all after hundreds and hundreds of hours of recordings. Good buy!

I have the original 2488 still, and use it every day to track. In fact, until only a few months ago, I was using it to do everything, but now I only record my tracks on it and then transfer them into my PC to mix in REAPER. It's an awesome machine, I've never had any problems with it other than the buttons and jog wheel getting a little sticky.I f I ever saw one at the price you got yousr at, I'd buy it in a heart beat and have a second one.
