I am brand-new (today) to this forum and am glad to have found you. Without being excessively wordy I'll give a short background. About 3 years ago I was looking for a home recorder to make my own simple recordings. I've played drums most of my life but I'm also a 4-chord merchant on guitar and I play a little trumpet/flugelhorn. So the idea was to be able to record brass melodies with a rhythm section in the background. Simple enough I thought. To record just the drums properly, I believe, I need a minimum of 6 mics which is why I have a 2488, because of all the channels still available for other instruments. After about 2 years of using the machine only about an hour or two a week I started getting a message. The start up would go straight from "disk detection" with half the bar filling in to "cannot boot, not detect HDD correctly. please power off and check H/W." From surfing the internet it seems that this is a common issue with this machine and several suggested fixes were to just replace the hard drive, which I did. Same result. I considered the slight possibility that the new hard drive was bad but before I go further I need some help. Anybody got any ideas? A new machine is not in the budget.

Ok, so you have a 2488 that's telling you it can't read it's hard-drive. You swapped the drive out and you're still getting the same issue. Do I have all the details there? If so, then I have two questions for you:

1 - What kind of hard drive / interface does the machine use - PATA/IDE or SATA?

2 - Did you try a different cable? (Both IDE and SATA cables *do* break in the right conditions).
