just got a tascam 246.
i had a problem getting it to play, so i took the back cover off to inspect it and found the main belt loose.
it's the larger of the two belts inside, but i can't figure out how to get it back on. i can see where the other end wraps around, but there's too much slack. am i missing a peg, or do i need a new band? the band seems to be in good condition.
thank you for your help

ha ha .... nice "repair" ... just make sure you replace that rubber band every few uses as I'm sure it's not going to last. :D

You'll need a new belt from Tascam or a compatible belt from your local VCR repair store.

The belt is not too hard to replace, but you may have to loosen one side of the bracket that keeps the flywheel on, and just sneak the new belt (under the bracket) over the flywheel.

Belt issues are commonplace with this vintage of recorder (Portastudio, reel, etc).

Search this site for TASCAM PARTS, because I posted the phone # on some previous post.
