So I'll preface by saying that I am new to tape recording, and I have been working in a DAW for the past few years. I am excited to get out of the box and work within the limitations of tape!
I recently picked up a Tascam 246, and everything seems to be in great condition other than the assign functions for 3 & 4 across all channels. I am able to record to tracks 3 & 4, and I am able to listen to playback from the tape after recording on those tracks, but I am not able to hear anything while recording or prepping to record. The assign functions for L/1 and R/2 work perfectly fine across all channels like normal.
I have a copy of the owner's manual, and I've tried figuring it out on my own to no avail. What am I looking to fix here? Or is this just new user error?
