Hey!

I just bought an old Tasam 244 for 25 Euros.
I am wondering if its worth ( and possible) to repair...
there is a guy on ebay germany ( i am from austria ) who sells some of
the missing parts (1 x flat belt, 1 x square belt, 1 x pinch roller) for
23 Euros.

But then one piece of the back ( a reel on the backside as you can see in the pictures)
and the plastic coverage from the cassette part ( is it necessary?)
is still missing.
hm....what do you guys think?

here are some pics:

Well if you're really into getting it going and you can source the parts for a price you're okay with then do it.
Always a fun little project. Looks like the pulley that's missing is for the counter.
And make sure you clean all that gunky rubber up. Oh.... you might want to check the idler tires. They could most likely be in the same shape as the belt. Then you'll have all kinds of problems. There are a few threads around here on swapping them out with regular rubber washers you can get at most hardware stores. It's a more involved job,but not too hard. And once again a good way to kill a couple hours. I did the same with my 244.

If it used to belong to George Harrison, sure, it's worth it!:thumbs up:

I used to repair cassette decks often- replace capstan rollers, replace belts, even re-attached the heads on a Kenwood auto-reverse unit (tiny screws!) Seemed worth it then, but now, I don't bother.

Thanks for the Tips!

Ok...i like to repair things just for the "challenge".:thumbs up:
I think the biggest problem is to replace the pulley on
the backside.
Do you guys know how to replace it?
Maybe just rip an old Cassette-player for parts?

And yes, as far as i know, this 244 belonged to George Harrison :laughings:

No!

No!

Do not buy this fixer. There is a plastic pulley that's entirely missing on the head/load section of the mechanism.

There are also enough visible signs of wear and muck to make this a poor candidate for refurbishment.

See: underside photo of mechanism...

Hey!

Thanks, its a pity...

so i will propably sell the knobs and useful parts on ebay....

or is anybody here who wants it for free?

( i am living in austria, you would have to pay the shippingcosts )

Or,...

you could use this 244 as a parts machine to refurbish another, nicer 244.

:spank::eek:;)

If you are still giving it away I would like it!
If not, I totally understand.
