I've had a Tascam 234 Syncaset since the early 2000s. Never used hard, but I still love it. Had it fully services around 2008 with all new rubber and a good cleaning. Have used it a bunch since then.

However I went to use it tonight, and track 4 won't record. When you turn it on, the VU meter does it's typical initial bounce. But then when you plug a line in, nothing. It's not registering any readings at all.

All the other tracks and inputs work great.

So I guess my question is, 1. What could be causing it; 2. Is it something that's typically a DIY fix; and 3. If not, how much am I looking at to get it fixed?

Work all the buttons, knobs & switches really well. After that you might consider opening it up and reseating all the connectors.
