Tascam 234 Eject Problem

Maybe someone can give me some insight on this.

I just installed new belts on a Tascam 234 Syncaset. After getting it back together it seems the eject has a problem closing and opening if the door is closed.

I can turn the belt manually (while unplugged) and get it to where it will open and close, but after powering it up it won't eject.
if the cassette door is open when i power up, it won't close. if the cassette door is closed when i power up it won't open.

Is there an adjustment of some sort?

Also, when i first took the cover off to get at the inside (before tearing down to install the belts), i had turned the wheel a little to look at the existing stretched out belt and noticed then that it didn't eject properly. But, i figured it would go away after installing the new belts.

I'm the original owner and i never had that problem while i was using it before.

Any help is appreciated. i hate to tear that thing back down again!
Thanks.

Hello, and Yes.

As you know, the head/carriage mechanism is sent up and down by a belt. What happens sometimes, is that when replacing the belts the cam gets 180 degrees out of phase. It would probably be a good idea to open 'er up and address that issue, by hand-turning the mechanism another 180 degrees and reloading the belt.

That's of course assuming that you did replace that particular belt, or if not it may simply be broken. ;)

Aaaaggghhhh!!! Ah yes, upon careful re-reading of your post, I believe that is the problem. Ref my first comment, above.

Good luck!! ;)

Tascam 234 eject problem

Thanks for the info!
I tore it down again.
after thinking about it and looking at it for awhile, i realized that the little white plastic 'clawlike or clothespin like' part must slide onto the plastic radius on the black cogwheel behind where the belt is. i didn't have that lined up.
slapped it back together and fired her up and it seems to be working. it plays a cassette. i haven't fast forwarded or rewound anything yet but i think it's fixed.
i left out a screw in the cassette mechanism on the first tear down, so i needed to go back into it anyway.

Whew.
