Is anything special ( like a specific stylus) needed for the DBX encoded disks? I have a couple DBX224x units with a disc decode button Ive never used. Might try it out!!
One last question: How in the **** do I change out the capstan belt? looks like I've got to take some tricky stuff apart. Is there a way to change it without totally disassembling the transport?
Based on my experience with the 234, I believe you have to remove the cassette mechanism from the chassis. Then it's accessible enough that you only need to loosen one main bracket and get the belt on by slipping it thru the gap between the bracket and the flywheel. It's a medium teardown in my book.
The real grinder is getting the FF/RW motor/clutch assy in & out to change the tires! That's a heavy duty teardown!
Cool! Thanks a bunch Reel! I made it through Ike okay and everything is intact so now I can resume my mission of changing the belts. The ffwd/rwd rubbers are fine so I'm not going to touch those. I'll take some photos of the inside and post them up somewhere for others to see for future reference.
Man was that ever a pain in the back side to change out a belt! I think I would rather have an appendectomy without being knocked out first. I'm just glad it's finally over..................
Oh yeah, I took some pics of the inside for future reference if anyone ever has a question about the 122B. Once I get 'em posted I'll reply with a link.
