Has anyone built the TapeOp condenser mic? There was feature article a few years back. It's a small capsule housed in a Neutrik XLR male plug with an electrical junction box housing the power supply circuitry.

I started building the one following the plan on TapeOp. I haven't got to finishing the power supply. I couldn't find a WM-60 so I substituted a WM61 capsule which another set off plans indicated was okay.

The reason I haven't finished is that I got pulled into a couple of other projects. It's on my list for this weekend, though. I ordered most of the parts from www.digi-key.com

Here's a link to a diy site that lists the digi-key part numbers for a similar build:

hey i tried getting the parts for this through digi-key last year and they had a minimum order for stuff. i don't need 25 capacitors or whatever becaue i'm not an electrician. is there a way to only get a couple parts? i got a couple through newark but they charged me 20 dollars for shipping

Verily, I say, I have done this unto the lord's pleasing! I did a pair of them and use them on acoustic guitar in stereo with great results. No kidding, they sound really good! Do a couple and then look up the "Linkwitz mod", which changes the circuit to a source follower. It makes the mic capable of higher SPL's and lower noise. (Don't do it unless you're really good at soldering. Too much heat can hurt the capsule and alter the sound.)

I did em and they sound kind of dark. Not bad for 20 bucks or whatever i spent on parts though. I think people were saying the behringer test mics were better for the same price though.

I was just looking at Mouser they will post worldwide up to 4lbs for only $12! However they stock a bizzarre range, they don't stock a single chip or transistor that I've ordered in the last few months. No chips from linear, analog devices, motorola (freescale) ??
