taking apart h4n

The headphones jack on my h4n is messed up. I suspect the soldering points where messed up. My only problem is i'm not sure how to open the thing up to get to them so i could fix it. (besides for removing the screws in the back. Help would be nice. Thanks

You'll want to PM Richard Monroe on that one. Here on HR he seams to be the expert on the H4n. At least more so than anyone else that owns one.

Yeah, he PM'd me, but I'm no tech, and I've never had the thing apart. I'm an informed end user, that's all. My primary interest is twofold- One, how did it happen? Was there force applied to the headphone plug, or did it just bite? Secondly, I'm interested in what kind of support Zoom provides in a case like this. Keep us posted. I'm also concerned that if you take it apart, Zoom may consider the warranty voided.-Richie

Just one more idea CM did you try another pair of phones to make sure that it's not the phones that are bad?

the phones are fine. I succeded in opening it up, there is so much going on in there.

How did you get it open? And don't say with a great big hammer.

There happens to be 5 screws on the back panel. Two of them visible and the other three hidden, yes under the wonderful rubber feet. But a lot of care must be taken when removing the back. sorry about the bad pic.

Why is it Im the only one on the board with a decent camera...lol.

If you have a switch on it for Macro...it takes better detailed pics of smaller stuff.

How long have you had the H4n? Have you considered getting Zoom to repair it? I just had a problem with 1/4" jacks jamming in mine and they agreed to repair it no questions asked. Just a thought.
