Tacam 112 runs slightly fast -

I have acquired two Tascam 112 machines, and both exhibit the same problem. With the varispeed OFF, they both run a bit fast...not much, but enough to hear a pitch change on pre-recorded music. When the Vari speed is turned ON, the thing spools up to high speed and the vari speed pot does nothing. Is there a transistor or something in the motor control circuit that might be bad? Its odd that both do the same thing.

Ideas??
