i thought ittd be best asking here so i get honest awnsers from people whom have experianced t-racks first hand insted of seeing the ads when say its the best thing in the world (i know they make it look better than it is to sell it but you know what i mean)

It does depend on where you are in your education. When i first heard it i loved it, but as i learned more i found any eq withen reason will get you there to if you know where to adjust it

What are you going to use it for? Like Massive Master said, it ain't bad, but it ain't great either. Although the newer version does seem to sound better than the old one with the fake tubes

Here's my take on it. If you expect it to sound like the real analog hardware it's attempting to emulate, then you're going to be disappointed, just like you'd be disappointed with Arturia's Moog and Roland emulations, although taken as instruments in their own right, they certainly sound good.

So, use them for what they are--as a bunch of signal processors. In context, they might just be the right thing for the job where nothing else will do.

im recording rap/r'n'b/mc and trying to get them sounding like commercial tracks like what you hear on the radio though i know it wont happen, thats what im aiming for..

85% of that is the core sounds and the talent in front of the mics, 10% is the engineers skill, the other 5% is dumb luck.

Some software plug isn't really going to do anything for you there. You have EQ's and compressors and what not in your current DAW I'm sure.

Whatever software you have, just don't wait 'till the mastering stage to use it. "Mastering suite" is one of those marketing terms that has very little serious meaning in the real world.

following the advise of people on here i now have iZotope you can notice the differance alot more than t-racks (had a go at a friends) though im not sure if im going to use it yet or just use individual plugins.... i havnt produced a track before and am working with someone whos big in my area and really dont wanna let him down, so lookinf for something that will work for the time being until i cna do it all manually myself.

There's nothing that does it "automatically" -- Blowzone can completely trash an otherwise decent mix as easily and as quickly as T-Wrecks can. It's the guy at the controls that determines whether it sounds right or not.

If you're looking for some miracle plug that's going to take a mediocre track and make it sound like a 'pro' (for lack of a better term) recording, you're going to be looking a long, long time.

your right mate.. i was just in a vague mood i guess...

looked all the way through 'blowzone' as you put it and i cant find one setting i actually like... in a way thats a good thing right.. as i know what i want and am not just settling for anything that 'sounds ok'

You're not supposed to "find a setting you like" (assuming you're talking about presets). You're supposed to apply the settings you need based on what the mix is asking for.

The general problem with "self mastering" is that you should have done what the mix was asking for while you were mixing.

I think it's fine especially if your tracks are going to end up primarily being heard online as mp3s. Anyhow, I get my mixes pretty much how I want them and then use T-racks 3 basically for limiting and very mild compression to get the overall level up. I try to have my EQ just where I want it before mastering.

I do agree with noisewreck that the latest version is a significant improvement over its predecessor. I kinda wish I had the deluxe version with the new compressors, but I got upgraded for free from the previous version and don't plan on spending the money.

The good thing about getting something like T-racks is that you can then handle your tracks yourself if you don't have the financial means to have them mastered professionally. Going to pro studios and paying for pro mixing and mastering gets really expensive. That's primarily why I started trying to do things myself, and also to have more creative control and to be able to spend more time on individual songs.

Funny how I hear that kind of advice without listening an understanding...until, after a couple years, I 'discover' it for myself and smack my forehead...repeatedly. Another 'duh' moment. I guess that's how it is...for me. Anyway, YEAH!

T-Racks is pretty poor, in my opinion. Best thing I ever did was to send tracks to a professional to master. It makes complete sense to have someone do it who knows what they are doing. What's the ad in Tapeop? Mastering at home is like doing your own dentistry at home?

By the way, as a customer, I'd vouch for John's excellent quality at Massive Mastering.
