In Boston a BARGAIN price (at a good mastering studio) is $80/hour. And I think that's a more than fair price - seeing as a whole CD can be mastered in 5-6 hours. Mastering is always going to be more expensive (per hour) than tracking, but it takes a whole lot less time. To expect to get good mastering done at $40/hour is pretty unrealistic, at least around here.
 
chicago mastering

Just decided I'd poke my nose in this thread of scholarly debate.

Chessrock or other Chi-town pros, how much does mastering cost in Chicago? I'm about a month or two away from finishing my home recording project and really curious where our town fits into the grand scheme of things.
